Jiuquan Geography
Stretching for over 500 km from east to west, Jiuquan is a prefecture-level city in the westernmost part of Gansu Province, China. Moreover, it’s also a major stop along the famous Silk Road northwest from Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu.

This town occupies an area of about 3,300 square kilometers, accounting for 42% of the total area of Gansu Province.
Jiuquan History
Jiuquan was founded in 343 more than 1,600 years ago. As a stopover place on the Silk Road in the ancient times, it was also an important economic site due to its abundant mineral deposits. In order to develop this region, From 2nd BC, commissioners and high-ranking officials were dispatched to this place by the emperors in the Western Han Dynasty. The ruler ordered to establish Jiuquan since the traffic along the Silk Road became much busier than before. Therefore, the town became much popular since then.
