Brief / profile
Covering a total area of 16,800 square meters, the Id Kah mosque is a complex of ancient Islamic buildings with strong religious flavor. As the largest mosque in China, it attracts over 10,000 worshipers every Friday.
Location
This mosque is situated on the central square in Kashgar, Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region in the west China.
Function or value in the past
It was built to pray for the souls of the ruler’s dead relatives at first.
Construction
The mosque is 140 meters long from north to south and 120 meters wide from east to west, consisting oft the Doctrine Teaching Hall, the Gate Tower, the Hall of Prayer, a pond, a big courtyard and other structures.
